August 31, 2026

This week’s Monday Morning with Denise wraps up August with a look back at BIGiOK’s Past Presidents Luncheon, where former association leaders gathered to reconnect, share stories and help capture memories for BIGiOK’s upcoming 120th anniversary celebration. Denise and Jerry also highlight BIGiOK’s expanding education opportunities, including the September 15 webinar Decision Discipline in Practice: Aligning Financial Solutions to Clients’ Needs, designed to help agents better match coverage and financial recommendations to individual client needs. They remind viewers that registration is still open for the Young Agents Conference, Sept. 16–17 at River Spirit Casino in Tulsa, and preview an upcoming Young Agents community service project in October. The episode also discusses the Oklahoma Insurance Department’s upcoming public hearing on market competitiveness and BIGiOK’s involvement in that process, with a promise to share online access information if it becomes available.

00:00:14:03 – 00:00:41:04

Well, happy Monday morning. Good morning. Good morning. August 31st. Doesn’t seem like it’s like the end of everything. August 31st. I, I feel like this August especially has been the longest month. Yeah. It’s where I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked at the calendar and when is it going to end. Just I don’t know if it was the weather because it’s just been such a hot month and it hasn’t really led up very much.

00:00:41:04 – 00:01:06:24

Or it’s just you know everybody’s like gets back to school and I don’t know Holy cow I’m the end. So I’m hoping September just starts this new. Just rain. Just give us some rain. Rain. I know all the rain that’s coming in August is kind of like hit the ground and just poof, it’s gone. Oh, it’s so true. And we get little teasers.

00:01:06:24 – 00:01:32:01

Like last week. We got a couple of sprinkles, but not not really anything. So, did you like last week? Yes, I did with our past presidents luncheon. I thought that was really fun. It was, you know, we we did some recording. But as I was telling you before, I wish I could have recorded the whole, time that they were just saying they were just sharing, and it was just amazing.

00:01:32:01 – 00:01:53:06

Yeah, they were pretty cute. They told stories. I don’t know, there’s some stories. I don’t know if we won’t repeat it, but we had it. So for the first time, I don’t even know in years. We had it in the building, which was really fun. So we didn’t go to a crowded restaurant, noisy and all that. We just came here and frankly, they all just they were so they were so fun.

00:01:53:06 – 00:02:20:13

And, you know, they don’t see each other that much anymore. So I think it’s a really cool time for them to spend time together. But, we’ll have to post a picture somewhere. Yes, sure. We, I know you’re working on with camera, so. Yes. But we had Les Hinds and Bob Mckowan who are are to. Senior chairman.

00:02:20:13 – 00:02:48:18

President. And they were both so dapper and came in. So it was fun for them to share stories too with the ones because you know, even Stuart Berrong was there, Scott was there. And so for them to get to hear these guys that were chairman in like the early 80s back in the 1900s is what we call them in the 1900s.

00:02:48:21 – 00:03:08:23

So very cool. Yeah, it was really, really cool. So, we do that about once a year and get together with them. So they just they just seem to really relax. Just really. Oh yeah. Share. I guess it’s it was here in the building and all, but yeah it’s good I, I agree. So anyway it was lovely. I thought that was really, really fun.

00:03:08:23 – 00:03:37:25

So enjoyed it. Well okay we’re getting ready to head in September so let’s try to since school is coming in since we should have already. I think everybody’s back in their schedule. Like I think the traffic patterns, as much as I hate school traffic patterns. Everybody settle down. Ya think? At least until school’s out. You know, on Thursdays I take my dad, my 90 year old dad to breakfast every Thursday.

00:03:37:25 – 00:04:00:00

And so we are in Edmond and we meet, you know, we try to get there at 730. Holy cow. The early morning traffic is just as bad when I normally come to work. So. Tell him, dad, we’re going to have to go an hour earlier. Oh, yeah. You know, there is one of us that we don’t make it so that is the highlight of his week.

00:04:00:00 – 00:04:25:14

So we have a good time every day. That’s that’s a blessing to be able to say that you do that and it’s so true. Yeah. It’s so true. We take it for granted I, I do take it for granted. And there’s not a Thursday that go by that he’ll say like what’s going on at the association. So we’ll have to record him sometimes we need to I mean I could kind of open up your little segment there opening.

00:04:25:14 – 00:04:50:05

Yeah. What’s going on with the association and how’s everything. How do your financials look? They’re fine. Pretty good. Good. Bless his heart. Good. Yeah. So education, we got some education things going on. You know, you know, I got to share with our past presidents or their really past presidents or past chairman, about our new education program that we’ve been doing about a year.

00:04:50:05 – 00:05:14:11

And, you know, a lot of them are by far, you know, they they were in the National Alliance program and all that. But The Institutes we got to show them kind of the new way of how education looks and is and online and that we’re now offering more than 31 designations like the world changed. So it was fun to get to share that with them and get to show them that how we’ve had to keep up with modern times.

00:05:14:13 – 00:05:35:25

And we have. So September 15th, there’s a webinar called Decision Discipline in Practice Aligning Financial Solutions to Clients Needs. I think you say that five times real fast. I’m not going to even say it again. I can hardly get through that. But I’ll say this this is a really good class because right now. So I’m in the process.

00:05:35:25 – 00:05:59:24

You know this because you’ve heard me talk about it. But I’m in the process of working with a group that’s preparing for the Oklahoma Insurance Department hearing that is on a competitive market in the in the marketplace. So, you know, I would probably say we have a competitive market. I mean, we have kind of affordability problem. So not availability though, because there are there’s plenty of companies writing.

00:05:59:27 – 00:06:18:14

So we can have this argument all day. However, when we’re working with our clients it’s still an increase bill that they’ve never had before. So how do you work with your clients and balance out those financial solutions for what they need, you know, the value of their house or you know, all their toys that they have or part of their business needs and things like that.

00:06:18:14 – 00:06:37:16

So I think this is a really cool class to take. I don’t really encourage, you know, anyone to take it so they can talk about short term, long term, because not only I’m sure they have, most people have financial advisors, but sometimes their insurance agent might be one of the most valuable people that they have. So I want to stop you real quick, okay?

00:06:37:18 – 00:07:02:17

You need to clarify something. When you say toys, that’s men’s tools. We have to say it that way. I wasn’t going to say that. I was also thinking boats That can be a tool. Okay. Gathering fish to feed the family. Yes. Or fishing poles, whatever. That would mean. Perfect. Perfect. Yeah. Okay. We’ll go with toys Okay. Keep going. Oh, gosh.

00:07:02:20 – 00:07:27:07

So tomorrow starts September. So that means the Young Agents’ Conference is almost here. It is almost September 16th and 17th conference at River Spirit Casino. That’s in Tulsa. It’s easy to get to. It’s a really pretty resort to super cool. Registration is still open today, but closes very soon, probably in about a week. So go ahead and get registered.

00:07:27:07 – 00:07:49:06

I don’t think it’s sold out yet, so go ahead and take advantage of that. And then as we look forward into October, the Young Agents’ are having their Foremost community service projects, I guess Foremost Insurances is assisting them with that. So they do a big community service project, which is smart to do it in October. And so if they’re outside, it’s not so hot.

00:07:49:07 – 00:08:21:23

Let’s hope. Just so you know, I mentioned it a little bit earlier, but what I’m working on is that the insurance department is having a hearing on September 14th and 15th, and it’s on whether or not we have a competitive market in Oklahoma. It’s much broader than that. But that’s that’s basically what it is. It it will be a public hearing and I’m not sure if it’ll be online, but it will be public that if you want to go to state Capitol in the big room, you can go attend that if that’s something that anyone’s interested in.

00:08:21:23 – 00:08:48:15

And, the BIGiOK is a big part of that. We work with a group of, insurance professionals that really want to determine that. So and that comes up on September 14th. And would that be online anywhere at all? They as of right this minute, I, I don’t see that. However, I think that something I guess if they have a wish list.

00:08:48:18 – 00:09:08:22

Yeah. Yeah, but but currently currently it is not scheduled to be online. They call it public. That means you would have to go there. So we’ll see if they come up with a public, link to it. And if that happens, then we’ll be sure and send it out. Yes, yes we will. Okay. So anyway, okay, I think I think that’s it.

00:09:08:23 – 00:10:00:01

Holy cow. Let’s go to September. Let’s get to September. We’re rolling. Okay. Have a great week. You as Well.
