This week’s Monday Morning with Denise welcomes September with a look at several important issues and upcoming BIGiOK activities. Denise and Jerry discuss the Oklahoma Insurance Department’s Sept. 14–15 hearing on market competitiveness and affordability, along with recent election results and BIGiOK members advancing to the November general election. They also remind viewers that the Young Agents Conference is coming up Sept. 16–17 at River Spirit Casino in Tulsa, with registration closing soon. Education highlights include the free webinar Bylaws, Buildings and Blind Spots: Condo and HOA Coverage Explained, which focuses on master policies, replacement cost and key property and liability exposures. The episode also previews the Young Agents’ Oct. 29 community service project with Foremost and closes with a look ahead to another busy week for BIGiOK.

00:10:00:03 – 00:10:26:14

Well happy Monday. Good morning. Labor day weekend. We made it. We we made it to September. Oh thank goodness, thank goodness. And you know what else I think made summer longer. Was that like Labor Day is late. It’s like the it’s the seventh which is what we’re doing. So usually it’s like you know for first, second, third, fourth.

00:10:26:14 – 00:10:48:19

And so it made summer and August a whole lot hotter, longer. Did you say hotter? Yes. It did that to Anyway, so I wonder if since it’s so light, it’ll make September feel shorter. Do you think I don’t know I don’t know, I just want to get through all this heat. I know, I know, we say it all the time.

00:10:48:19 – 00:11:15:05

Will be. I’ll be fussing about the cold pretty soon I know, I know, I so looking forward to it. FYI, working with my group on the Oklahoma Insurance Department hearing coming up on September the 14th, they’re saying the 14th and 15th. I’m not quite sure how the timing is going to work. We’ll post that. But, really interesting, you know, because, you know, how do you support this consumer?

00:11:15:05 – 00:11:42:28

How do you support the industry? You know, do we have a competitive market or do we just have an affordability problem, things like that. So that doesn’t sound like very fun chat that we usually start with. But this has been a really big deal. So I mean with the with the addition of a new commissioner coming in and all that kind of good stuff, that it throws a whole new, wrench in the game that’s, that reminds me getting our own BIGiOK

00:11:42:28 – 00:12:05:12

member, Bob Sullivan won his runoff race, and so he will be in the general election for Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner. Yeah, just as an FYI. So thrilling to have a member. But, FYI, we’re one of 11 states that elect our commissioner, which I think is very interesting. In many states, they just have what they call an appointed commissioner.

00:12:05:12 – 00:12:31:16

So that means the governor gets to appoint someone. And sometimes, you know, I have a lot of peers and other states. Sometimes they do it really well, like it’s someone that’s very familiar with the industry. Other times they just put someone in there for a position that may or may not know how to spell insurance. So, anyway, so we so we in Oklahoma get to elect our insurance commissioner as we do our labor commissioner.

00:12:31:16 – 00:13:00:11

And obviously, Kevin, governor, you know, governor and all that. But, yeah, the governor’s race was interesting. So congratulations to Mike Mazzei. And he will be now running against Cindy Munson in the general election, which will be in November. So okay, can I just tell you something? It’s really hard for me to keep her name Cindy Munson and Cindy Munden.

00:13:00:13 – 00:13:18:27

Because we have a Cindy Munden. Yeah. And so, yeah, I kind of thought that was what you were doing, slowing down there, because that’s what I have to do all the time to think. Yeah, I forgot to mention, Bob Sullivan will be running against Democrat Craig McIntyre, which that will be in the November election. So.

00:13:18:29 – 00:13:39:20

But, you know, not very often. You have a BIGiOK member that’s in an office like that. And, you know, our own Mark Tedford will be in the general election for Congress from the Tulsa area. So we got some pretty active BIGiOK members, I think we may need to try to get them on here sometime. Oh, that’s a great idea.

00:13:39:27 – 00:13:58:29

We should do that. And just, Yeah, we might do some of that. I think that’s a great idea. Yeah. Okay. I’m going to make a note, and I’m going to call them. Okay, I don’t know. We can elect to be good. Okay. So how’s the week looking? You mean. Yeah, we’re working our way down towards. So.

00:13:58:29 – 00:14:17:24

I mean, right now is the seventh. We’re looking at young agents coming up pretty quick, so I’m finalizing a lot of that. Good stuff. So let’s just, tell us what’s going on. Well, young agent conference is September 16th and 17th. That’s in Tulsa. So I think I’m so focused on the hearing, which is earlier in the week, the young agent.

00:14:17:24 – 00:14:35:14

Yeah. Yeah. The Young Agents’ Conference is later in that same week. So that’s going to be a busy week for us isn’t it. So at River Spirit Casino, registration is very close to closing but still not too late. So take advantage of it. That’s going to be a really cool conference. I might have to pop into Tulsa.

00:14:35:21 – 00:15:00:00

I think it’s closing on the 11th if I remember correctly, but BIGiOK/YAconferene. And they can find out okay. That’ll that’ll work. Well usually they have a pretty pretty big turnout. So it’s kind of cool. Education. We have a really good webinar that’s free, free free free free “Bylaws Buildings And Blind Spots, Condo And Hoa Coverage

00:15:00:00 – 00:15:24:21

Explained”. Which is really funny since we’re in the middle of an insurance department hearing on homeowner’s insurance. So but it’s really important. Sometimes we underestimate condos. And what is this? And what, HOAs do. Wether you’re in a neighborhood or with a condo association. So it will compare the master policies, it will identify replacement cost. Condos are a really different kind of coverage.

00:15:24:27 – 00:15:46:29

Like it’s super different. So, so you we probably need a little bit of education on that. And then it’s going to recognize key property liability exposures and all of that. So that is a free webinar. You know we have a huge list of free webinars and classes that we offer to BIGiOK. Members that are so helpful.

00:15:46:29 – 00:16:16:04

They may not be, you know, so many times a designation. You’re having to put in many, many hours for for obvious reasons. Sometimes you just want to learn. Like if you were writing a condo, this would be a great little webinar you could take and just learn about it so well in their weekly. I mean, they are they are weekly and we post them on our website, at the end, just because this is state law that you have to take a little quiz to prove that you paid attention, and if you paid attention, you should be able to pass it.

00:16:16:04 – 00:16:27:03

So but again, it’s free. And for big I members, the CE, it’ll show that there’s a cost. But for CEU which that’s what our BIGiOK members are okay unlimited

00:16:27:05 – 00:16:36:16

Subscribers. Yeah it will reflect when you check out. So it is free. So all these webinars, you do have to log in like you have to be logged in to our website.

00:16:36:16 – 00:16:57:18

Right? Well, yes. And to The Institutes website which is. Yeah okay. Okay. We love it. I’m so excited that we’re starting to see that program really grow. Just on the horizon, that Young Agents have their community service project and they’re working with Foremost And it’s on October 29th. So later in the fall when it’s a little bit cooler.

00:16:57:18 – 00:17:16:28

So registration is open for that if you want to help out. So later we’re getting ready for a busy week the next week. So I guess I think this week is kind of prep work. So and then things will kind of start slowing down a little bit. Maybe don’t knock on wood fine with right now because I thought the summer would be that way and it didn’t happen.

00:17:16:29 – 00:17:39:21

No, no. Yeah. Legislation kind of took care of that for you, No kidding. Yeah. And it’s not over because election’s still in November, so. Yeah, that means okay. Well Jerry, have a good week and hope you do as well. Okay. It was good. It was good. Dad. Dad’s birthday. And so he’s another happy birthday dad. Another year older okay.

00:17:39:23 – 00:17:43:06

So thank you. Okay. Have a great week. You as well. Bye bye.
