This week’s Monday Morning with Denise opens with a lighthearted conversation about Oklahoma’s extreme summer heat and Denise’s recent train trip through the Rocky Mountains. Denise and Jerry then recap the successful Young Agents SINGO event, which drew 73 participants and raised money for Free to Live Animal Sanctuary through activities including a dunk tank and pie throwing. They also highlight an upcoming volunteer project, several educational opportunities through The Institutes, the Insurance Growth Academy and registration deadlines for the Young Agents Conference at River Spirit Casino Resort. The episode closes with a reminder to stay informed during the upcoming election season and a special birthday message for Denise’s granddaughter, Rayleigh.

00:00:13:16 – 00:00:37:01

hi. Good Monday morning. Happy Monday morning.. Monday, August the 10th, 2026. I’m doing great. And it’s hot. It’s hot. You know, I’m a week post vacation, so I feel like I’m just, you know, we were in the mountains at Park City and it was lovely. And I came back to Oklahoma and it’s been I think it’s been 100 every, every day.

00:00:37:01 – 00:01:02:15

And I think they said, we have like seven more days of it. So there was one weekend which would have been a week ago that weekend when y’all were there. Yeah, that it cooled down for two days. Okay. That was the days we went. My wife and I went camping, like, cool down to what? Low 90s. So evening times were nice.

00:01:02:19 – 00:01:29:28

Morning was incredible. So. Yeah that would be. No I, I was kind of laughing. You already know this but I was in we were in Moab for just a quick. Yeah. We heard a little bit about I know I talked about that. However it was like a 106, 108 for this thing that we did. And then the next morning we got up and it was in like the mid 90s, like 96 in the morning.

00:01:30:00 – 00:01:51:01

Yeah. And you know, it’s kind of amazing because ten degrees does make a difference. We’re learning that unfortunately who would think the mid 90s would go on. This is pretty cool. This is nice. It’s crazy. Just it just blew my whole theory of anything over 100 degrees all kind of feels the same. And now look at us. We’re changing that total theory.

00:01:51:02 – 00:02:12:15

I know, I know, look at this. It’s all good. Well, did you have a good trip? Because I don’t think we’ve talked since you went last week. We briefly kind of touch base. Yeah, we kind of touched on it. Yes. It was a lovely trip. It was a train trip through.. Started out in Park City for a meeting and then did a train trip all through the Rockies, which was cool.

00:02:12:17 – 00:02:37:11

No Wi-Fi and and no phone service. So weirdly, that was really, really nice. Yeah. I mean, every now and then I get phone service and my phone would blow up, but but you know, you can’t respond because, yeah, you know, you go another two minutes and you’re, you’re also going through the cool thing about the train through you’re run through tunnels like crazy, which I hadn’t really realized that.

00:02:37:11 – 00:03:00:24

But the Rocky Mountains were beautiful. The train went places that you wouldn’t normally get to go. So it was it was really nice. So of course it’s good to be home. I miss my kitty and my puppy dogs. So it’s it’s all good. But now we are in the thick of Oklahoma hot weather. Yeah. Yeah. So. all good.

00:03:01:01 – 00:03:25:28

Well, you know, last week I get we were back in time for. We’ve been talking about SINGO for so long that we actually had SINGO. Yes we actually did it. 73 people had signed up. We had a great, great turnout. My favorite part is that we got big truck tacos because I love them so much. So we just says, I know it was a it was really, really nice.

00:03:26:00 – 00:03:44:23

We had such a fun time. It was. It’s always really cool. I think we finally we’ve been doing it. How many years? 2 or 3 years. 3 or 4 years. I think we’ve done it for like three in a row. And then we did one by itself and then skip the year and then. Right. Yeah, we’ve been doing it well.

00:03:44:23 – 00:04:08:02

I feel like we’ve tweaked it enough now. It’s like really good. Like got good speakers in there and is loud. Was loud. It was so well then when we’re done with that we went out and did all the fun stuff. So we had pie throwing. We had a dunk tank and we were raising money for for charity.

00:04:08:07 – 00:04:26:13

Now what was it that was at the … Free live free free live free to live. Yeah, I was trying to think of the name of it myself. I know we didn’t have that in our notes, but yeah, free to live. So we did raise a lot of money for that. It was a ton of fun. We waited for it to cool off a little bit before we did the dunk tank, but we had so many people involved in that.

00:04:26:16 – 00:04:42:24

We just provided those little, those little throwaway slippers for all the people that are getting the dunk tank as they walk up so they don’t burn their feet. Oh no kidding. Like little dog pads that you have to buy for your dog when you take them out. Yeah. Okay. So we want to do a thank you though. Yes we do have a list.

00:04:42:24 – 00:05:07:02

And I gave us a list. Yes. Right I was comp sauce. Hahahahaha Giggle it’s so funny to watch him because everybody just goes for him. Jeremy Bagley so he’s our new young agent chairman. He had to do it. But kudos to him for being such a good sport. Grant Johnson Erin Von Tungein. Jamie Larsen which I hear Erin and Jamie like, can dress for the occasion.

00:05:07:04 – 00:05:29:13

They they actually I think they do for everything. But it was that was even funny. And I always ask that question, aren’t those hot? I know, but they love it, so it makes it fun. It makes super cute. Yeah. Connor Chavez, Jessica Anthony and of course, Mikayla Sykes. He’s our immediate past chairman. So, a great group.

00:05:29:13 – 00:05:49:21

They were really good sports. We did a ton of pie throwing, which I love. So that was fun. Raised lots of money, did a good deed. And you know, that’s that’s worth it. So I love it when there’s pie throwing in. I’m not involved in the reception of it. It’s always good. Yes, that’s all it is. And just a just a little note.

00:05:49:21 – 00:06:12:03

We haven’t sent out any marketing or anything for it, but, the, free to live dog shelter. They’re going to do a volunteer project. I don’t know when exactly, but upcoming. So keep an eye on that and keep an eye on the calendar. Make that part of your give your money and go give your hands and feet.

00:06:12:06 – 00:06:29:11

I kind of like that that a lot of our fundraisers. So obviously we do some things for our foundation and all that kind of stuff. But I love that some of the of our fundraisers, we do a variety of things. We support a lot of organizations, which is really important, and our young agents have really done a good job with it.

00:06:29:11 – 00:06:50:00

So, so kudos to them for, for a great, a great, program. So kudos to everyone that helped SINGO I didn’t have to do a thing. We just showed up and listened to music. That’s right, that’s right. It was a whole lot of fun. So that community service project is October 29th. We’re ways out, but okay, you know, put it on your calendar.

00:06:50:01 – 00:07:11:19

You need to put that on our calendar. It’s it’s on our calendar. Okay. Well good. Remind everyone because I think that’ll be cool. Yeah okay. So a couple of education things going on. When I was in Park City, I actually got to be with, I don’t know if he’s the president. I’m not sure what he is, but with Hunter from the Institutes and he was so thrilled with that Oklahoma’s doing and the classes they’re able to offer.

00:07:11:19 – 00:07:39:22

So always we talk about it a lot, but it’s really important. So we have a micro cert focus. So again a micro cert a little bit of a smaller class not a full designation but it does apply to a designation. So a couple of really good classes that have popped up is Rate Making and Pricing. You know we talk a lot about this, especially right now because we hear it in worker’s comp, we hear it in property, we hear it in auto.

00:07:39:24 – 00:08:04:12

In fact, the Oklahoma Insurance Department is having a competitive market hearing in September. Because we’re looking at at the rate. So this could not be better timing to have a whole class on right making. And so they learn a little bit about the basics of insurance rate regulation. We are probably and this is in every state the insurance industry is probably one of the highest regulated industries that there are.

00:08:04:12 – 00:08:26:03

People think, oh, they just get to fluctuate prices. They don’t. I have to prove that to prove all their rates. They have to prove why it’s important that they raise or lower rates. And then it’s approving of the, from the insurance department. So hugely important, part of the class will be understanding how rates are determined.

00:08:26:05 – 00:08:52:02

And there’s different interactive lessons. And so usually you can finish those in about 3 to 5 hours. They’re pretty fast. And then there’s an exam at the end that you just have to do that. So it’ll go toward a couple of designations. Only 30 questions. Only 30 questions. Anyone should be able to do that. The other webinar is, decision discipline in practice aligning financial solutions to client needs.

00:08:52:04 – 00:09:13:13

This is hugely important because sometimes we don’t always look at what’s that bottom like line prices. But especially in insurance, we talk about the importance of what is the best for the company. What are the coverages they need? What’s the limits they need according to the type of business that they’re in? This would be a great, great class on that.

00:09:13:13 – 00:09:36:18

So, when form doesn’t match the risk. So that’s where you have to be really careful. And so that’s why we get designations. That’s why we, get the continuing education that we get because we are responsible for that client. And we have assist them. And and those are this week’s webinars. Matter of fact, I think the the decision discipline is on tomorrow 11th.

00:09:36:21 – 00:10:01:20

And and the other one is Wednesday or Thursday somewhere around there. So if you’re interested, jump on there. Those are free I believe for webinars are free. Free. So did you say we like free? We like free. We definitely like free. Yes. So this week we also have Insurance Growth Academy. It’s the first one, right? Yes. It’s, it’s starts the 12th and but they have tomorrow to get signed up.

00:10:01:20 – 00:10:24:26

So today and tomorrow if you’re interested. So it’s not too late because it’s online. Very producer focus. So you know the thing we get asked a lot is people like sales level, classes that they get this is exactly that. This is equal to bachelor masters level class. So take advantage of this. This is really, really good. So we’re probably offered this again later.

00:10:24:26 – 00:10:47:03

But now’s the time to take it because I don’t think we’d offer it again. Maybe until next fall. Then we also don’t want to forget it’s coming up really quick now. September just so far away, the young agent conference, which will be held at the River Spirit Casino, is on September 16th and 17th. I love River Spirit Casino, like, I really like that facility.

00:10:47:06 – 00:11:07:25

I’ve never been there, but it does look very. Yeah, I like it. Yeah, you’re going to like it. So now this is the final week for early bird registration. And so there’s a giveaway if you get signed up. So boom boom boom go ahead and get signed up on our website. BIGiOK.com/yaconference.

00:11:07:25 – 00:11:34:11

That’s right. Get that discount because price really does go up because we’re having to start we’re having to start making choices and reservations for all the things that we do. So take advantage of that early bird pricing. Exactly. Wow. Okay. Busy hot summer. I’m doing a ton of legislation. Just so you know, we have, election for governor, insurance commissioner, labor commissioner, superintendent.

00:11:34:13 – 00:11:55:23

So I hope everybody’s reading a ton of information. I wouldn’t watch commercials because I wouldn’t call them very accurate, but I would encourage you to get as much information and. Yeah. Is it is it bad that during watching some of these debates that I just sat with my hands down like this and I just kind of laugh, its exhausting..

00:11:55:25 – 00:12:17:29

Yeah, it is. So I don’t know. I will end it on a really high note. How is my granddaughter’s birthday? Happy birthday Rayleigh. I know, very exciting. So she’s going to go off this fall. She’s, she attends Oklahoma State University and she’s going to study abroad this fall. So happy birthday to her. Is that that one?

00:12:17:29 – 00:12:43:05

We’re in the Cowboys. Is that it? Because, that university. Yes. They have cowboys. I’m more of the Crimson. That’s. It’s all good. Well, she’s getting a very good, accounting free though. Yes. Accounting and international business. International. Who was it? I knew someone that was a it’s a good degree. Yeah, it’s a good degree here. I hear it has longevity for sure.

00:12:43:05 – 00:12:56:16

So anyway, happy birthday. Rayleig. Yeah. Happy birthday. Okay. Saying all that. Have an awesome week, Jerry. That’s right. You have a good week as well. And just I’d say stay cool but stay cool. Just stay inside. Yeah. It’s true. All
