This week’s Monday Morning with Denise combines a timely reminder about the value of insurance with several important BIGiOK updates. Denise shares a personal story about her daughter’s recent auto accident and how modern vehicle safety features, insurance coverage and the claims process helped turn a potentially serious situation into one everyone could walk away from safely. The conversation then shifts to BIGiOK’s education resources through The Institutes and technology tools available to members through Catalyit and ACT, with a strong focus on helping independent agencies better understand and adopt artificial intelligence. Denise and Jerry also preview Catalyit’s upcoming Get Lyit virtual conference, highlight new AI research showing a gap between carrier and agency adoption, and remind viewers about the Young Agents Conference and the Oct. 29 community service project sponsored by Foremost.

00:00:14:25 – 00:00:42:21

Well, hello. Happy Monday. It is October. Guess what? No, it’s not No you didn’t. Denise, I. We were just talking about October because we have all these scheduled events in October. I know, I need some more coffee. Yeah. September 14th, 2026. And it’s not 107, and it is not 107. I mean, still, until you’re 103 numbers.

00:00:42:23 – 00:01:08:15

It’s in the weird. How 102 and 92, like 92. Feels really nice. Not that bad. I know, I know. Maybe there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Finally. It is. I think so, because my trees are going. I think we’re done. I think we’re going to drop everything. Or trees. Our poor flowers in the back or back of our house, or because they’re so sad.

00:01:08:17 – 00:01:27:14

There’s a there’s a house down on the on my walk that I go by. And I know they must have to water this far out of that front yard, because it is so green. And so I’m like, how much water do you use to keep this grass? Because my grass is shot I need the water in the world.

00:01:27:14 – 00:01:47:26

I guess I’m even water in mine too. About sort of. Kind of. All right. We have I think we have some rain on our horizon, so it’s going to get a little bit better. Well, so last week, I think I told you this, my daughter had kind of a crazy week. So my granddaughter went, is in Prague.

00:01:47:27 – 00:02:18:08

She’s an Oklahoma State University, go Pokes, student and is studying is studying abroad. Yes. So she sent her daughter off to Prague then. And that’s not Prague. Prague, Oklahoma. Not like Praugue That’s literally Prague. It’s actually a town outside of Prague called Bruno. And it’s actually the second largest city in the Czech, Bruno. So now Bruno. So, that was fun to get her off.

00:02:18:10 – 00:02:39:29

Seems really weird to send. It was an adventure for us. I know, yeah, it was interesting to send our little bitty baby girl who’s five, 11 and 20 years old to this country. So she did that. And then I think it was probably two days later. Then Lauren actually was in a wreck. And so someone pulled out in front of her.

00:02:40:02 – 00:03:00:15

Here’s the cool thing. This is why I love insurance. She’s safe. Other granddaughter, 17 year old, was in the car with her, and the guy that pulled out in front of her. If you know how accidents can, a split second can make a difference. Luckily, the way she hit him, she would have T-boned him right where he was.

00:03:00:15 – 00:03:22:18

But she hit it a little bit before that. But every one of her airbags went off. I saw that. And. Yeah, and what was crazy is that she’s gotten all of her stuff out of the car. Literally that car all the airbags were completely deployed back front. They even have airbags down like where her knees are. Both of them.

00:03:22:24 – 00:03:45:03

Wow. And so it looks like a bouncy house. And her car. I wish I had a picture. I’m going to have to. She sent me a picture. Yeah. So? So it made me think. Like how? This is why insurance is so important. Because, for one thing, her car, the little magic man in the speaker said, we’re calling.

00:03:45:09 – 00:04:05:27

Yet we. We just noted that you’ve been in a crash. The magic man. Is that what? You’re magic. All your magic? Yeah. Yeah. I love it. There’s a magic magic, man. And he said, we’re calling. We’re calling emergency services right now. Are you okay? Do you need us to call your emergency? They went through a whole list. Yeah.

00:04:05:27 – 00:04:31:20

And so it was really great. Fire department came. They all walked away from it in fact, the guy that had accidentally had been had a blind spot pulled out in front. He got to walk away. And both of them, both of them had insurance. And so instead of that being tragic, like her car’s probably total, that other guy, his is probably totaled.

00:04:31:23 – 00:04:58:00

And the benefit of living on insurance is that they wouldn’t come walk away with their lives and I wouldn’t say it’s all good, but it’s good. Like, they don’t have to worry about it because the insurance process has already started. The claims process is already, you know, starting to go. The claims adjuster has been in touch and sometimes we hear, especially in the media, the high cost of auto insurance.

00:04:58:00 – 00:05:18:22

It’s so expensive. But think about how expensive cars are. Like you don’t have a fender bender anymore. Like every car, you just got a car. You said Subaru. Yeah, and every bumper. I have a magic woman in mine. Oh, yours is a magic woman. She touched. Yes. Okay. Go ahead. I have a British woman

00:05:18:25 – 00:05:47:09

But at the cost of it, it’s just. It’s just crazy. You know, we couldn’t afford to drive those cars, but even the simplest of cars, if they’re five years old, have sensors and they’re bumpers, sensors, you know, on their doors, the whole bit, which we now live in a safer world. I mean, yeah, if I think if that would have been a wreck 10 or 15 years ago, it could have been very, very serious for all of them.

00:05:47:12 – 00:06:15:06

And like I said they got out of the car and walked away. So it makes me really thankful for, for insurance and what we have as a consumer, you’re always looking at, well I’ve got to spend money on nothing. But there are so many times when that nothing comes to fruition. I have had that. I mean, I know we all have, but, you know, there’s those times that just like that one, you know, you’d be out of car.

00:06:15:08 – 00:06:37:25

Right. Complete joy. You start riding your bicycle or walkin It’s it’s really, really true. And so it it and you’re right, I hope I hope, honestly, I hope that I pay for insurance my whole life and never use it. But I can tell you, in my life so far, that has not been the case. Yep. Because I’ve used it for my house and I’ve used it for my health, and I used it for my car.

00:06:37:27 – 00:07:03:12

All the above. So so, you know, so my insurance for my growth. So I have had two girls, and their insurance was driving a tank. So. Yeah, yeah, I drove, I got to drive. What, anyway. Yes. So my first car was my parents hand-me-down a Oldmobile Delta 88. That’s a boat. I know you could fit.

00:07:03:12 – 00:07:24:27

17 because, you know, I was so. I mean, 17 people. And for lunch, if you had everybody on top of everybody, you could drive to Long John Silver’s or 15 in 100 to hundred and three degree weather. I mean, maybe. Yeah. Because you don’t want to touch each other. Yeah. Yeah, that was my first car. It was safe too, though.

00:07:24:29 – 00:07:47:14

But yeah, just a reminder. That’s that’s that’s why insurance. That’s what. Yeah, that’s that’s that’s the whole point. So, I just wanted to make that point this morning. I like that, I know, okay, a few things. We have education still very important. We I just love our insurance program that we have through the institutes. There’s so many great, courses that people can take.

00:07:47:14 – 00:08:08:00

The designations are good. We’re starting to get some really nice feedback on it. Yes. I mean, I can’t believe if I’m at any given meeting how people will stop and say, I’m really, really liking the insurance program. Here’s what I’ve learned. And they’ll go down like a list of things and people get to, take the classes that they want and the very job they do.

00:08:08:00 – 00:08:25:28

So say they work in worker’s comp, they can take a worker’s comp class. Hopefully we don’t ever have to have, people going all over these different places to find all these different trainings when they can just come to one. That’s the point. And it’s all tied together there. And that’s, that’s our, you know, to that point.

00:08:25:28 – 00:08:44:13

We we wrestle with that. We you already know this, you and I, we wrestle with this because we have so many that comes and says, hey, we can do this education program for, oh, we already have it a bite size of a bite size of education. Right. So I feel like we’ve been able to provide that. So I’m always looking out for our members.

00:08:44:13 – 00:09:07:11

We want to make the very best a few other fun things we do. So we know education is very important. But we’re also part what part of being a member of the Big I is you also have access to a company called Catalyit. It is an incredible tech program that is literally focused on the insurance industry.

00:09:07:14 – 00:09:27:26

So I would call it the Consumer Reports of Insurance. So you can get on and you can do comparative of, you know, management systems, or you can compare what’s the best AI program and we’re getting a ton of that lately. So they’re having a conference and of course they’re a tech company. So they’re doing that all online.

00:09:27:28 – 00:09:46:12

And it’s called Get Lyit which I think is really funny because, you know, they’re cattle lit. So there’s many there I like it Get Lyit second annual I think you went to last year I went to last year. Do you like it. Yeah I did, I did so interesting. So that’s October 20th and 29th.

00:09:46:12 – 00:10:05:06

We’ll be sending out some links for people to sign up for it. They also may be getting that in their inbox, but in case they miss it will be promoting it to this. It’s going to be a lot of focus on AI. Jason First Yeah, Jason First who’s their new CEO really feels like that’s the important, focus that they need to make.

00:10:05:06 – 00:10:27:01

So it’s great if our members haven’t had a chance to get on a look around at that website, they should actually look around. So we’ll also have the link on our website too, right? Yeah. In the in the, resource tab, there is a link to Catalyit because with them being such a great. Yeah. Catalyit free full access.

00:10:27:01 – 00:10:52:11

There’s the free tech assessment and then tech solutions provider directory. So yeah they have a directory where they have all the different, providers that come beside Catalyit and they promote them. So yeah okay. Okay. Well speaking of AI, speaking of AI, I was going to say, we have a program through Independent insurance Agents and Brokers of America called Act.

00:10:52:11 – 00:11:18:27

And so it’s a little bit of a tech company, too, a little bit different. And they’re going to be focusing on AI in the independent agency channel. And are independent agents falling behind on AI? I would probably if I had to guess, I would say yes, they are falling behind because we now realize there’s so many jobs that can be done with AI that probably a lot are not taking advantage of, and I don’t think it’s because they’re against it.

00:11:18:27 – 00:11:39:07

I think they just they don’t know what to do with it or how to. Well, this program is literally for those agencies. So two thirds of independent agents and plan to increase the use of AI over the next 12 months, but only 8% currently have it embedded in their programs, 8%. So I don’t even know what that number is.

00:11:39:07 – 00:12:09:12

It’s very, very small. 76% of carry carriers have deployed generative AI capability. So it’s already happening on the company side. So really the agents it would just be easy for them just to fall into it. So it’s going to benefit them also. Yeah. The report raises an important question as carriers increasingly use AI to price risk and make decisions, how do we keep independent agents at that same pace?

00:12:09:14 – 00:12:33:03

So this is really important to us. So, you know, when we talk about catalyst or we were even talking about claims, it’s important for us, Big I of Oklahoma to keep our agents informed. This is a great way to do that. So what I like about this coming up is that if you’re wondering where the agency stands compared to the rest of independent agents, and when I say that, I mean nationwide, this report’s worth it.

00:12:33:03 – 00:12:52:27

So take advantage. Look at this report, compare yourself and see what you need to do it. Well, we’ll have there’s there’s a link, again in the resources tab on BIGiOK.com. And I’ll just make sure that if the report is not there, we’ll get it out to everybody. Because it it’s interesting.

00:12:52:29 – 00:13:16:20

Yeah. That fact of 76% of carriers and only 8% of agencies is just like. And how much more efficient is that? Oh my goodness, so much more. So I’ve started using AI so much more in what I do. And it’s amazing. You know, I’m I’m in the process of planning the trip right now. And so we’re going to be in some places that, that I’m not even familiar with.

00:13:16:23 – 00:13:37:05

And honestly, I put in just a general, here’s what I want to do and here’s the places I want to go. Can you figure out how to get me through the city in two days? Very large city. And, you know, thinking, thinking, thinking, thinking. And, you know, 30s later it spits out an entire itinerary, tells me where I need to preservations where I like.

00:13:37:05 – 00:13:56:25

It’s scary. But I was like, I’m so happy right now. So, Denise, I joke sometimes because I always say, you know, you’ve heard me say this. I always say please and thank you too when you’re talking to your AI. True. And my theory is I will be dead by the time all the robots take over. So I’m good.

00:13:57:02 – 00:14:17:02

Yeah, that’s what you should be. And the ones that do take over. They’ll love me because I said thank you. And please, I found myself the other day because I was working on it, is that I sent them a note and I was like, you are brilliant. Thank you so much. Oh, I was like, wait, hey, hey, we want we want to we wanted to be thankful.

00:14:17:04 – 00:14:39:29

One of these days that robot will come in and go, Denise, I remember your note. Yes. So brilliant. Okay. Other than that, I would say October 29th. Put this on your calendar. Young agents are having their community service project sponsored by Foremost. And so you can register for that event. And the most important thing coming up, around the corner is Young Agents’ Conference.

00:14:40:05 – 00:15:04:27

September 16th and 17th at the River Spirit Resort, which is. That’s this week. Yes, on the west side of Tulsa. Yeah, I know we say registration is don’t do it, don’t do it, don’t do it. I’m sure if you called Shania, she probably let you come. Don’t you think I have the sneaking feeling. Yes. Okay. Yeah. So it’s it’s technically close.

00:15:04:27 – 00:16:28:12

So, I did say that, but I would if I was someone I would do. What? If it was someone else, I would call Shania Yes, I yeah. So. Okay with that? I don’t have anything else. All right. Well, have a good week. You too. Thanks. Let’s see you. Bye.
